POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Clinical Director of Women’s Services serves as direct supervisor for Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, Lactation, Nursery, and GYN/Med. Organizes safe and effective care of the patient by collaborating with the physicians, technicians and allied practitioners. The Director is responsible for assisting with the supervision, coordination and evaluation of nursing care provided on the assigned unit. The Director also coordinates and supervises the activities of the unit, which supports the safe and efficient delivery care. The Director implements Performance Improvement activities, hospital policies/procedures and assists with the financial managements of the units. This position is responsible for the efficient, effective running of the assigned unit. This includes, but is not limited to management of the budget, provision of patient care services, performance improvement, compliance with regulatory standards, and business development.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:  • Effectively allocates financial, physical and human resources to ensure that operations are effective and efficient • Effectively interprets and acts upon budget reports • Completes a cost/benefits analysis on business plans • Implements effective cost containment strategies • Advances organizational mission • Operates across organizational boundaries and recognizes implications of actions and plans • Ensures Department/Unit provides positive customer service • Identifies critical changes required to improve efficiency and effectiveness • Establishes clear Operational Unit goals and hold staff accountable for their responsibilities and performance • Complies with professional regulations • Makes timely, effective decisions • Delegates responsibility effectively • Motivates staff to be effective team members • Fosters development of Department/Unit employees to enhance their ability to contribute to meet business goals • Holds others accountable for reaching a given standard of performance • Appropriately alters supervisory/management style to suit the situation and individuals involved • Facilitates timely performance reviews • Develops effective quality processes to improve quality of the department and hospital • Facilitates staff education regarding current quality initiatives • Participates in hospital or departmental performance improvements activities • Interviewing and hiring nursing staff • Scheduling nursing staff • Clinical resource for the nursing staff • Serves as an advocate for nursing staff • Evaluating staff performance • Discipline, counseling and staff development • Participates in financial management of the assigned unit • Participates in financial planning /budgeting for the assigned unit • Plans and conducts staff meetings • Plan and coordinates unit related in-services • Maintains 24-hour accountability for the direction, supervision, coordination and evaluation of activities and services of the assigned unit • Seeks opportunities to improve department or interdepartmental processes

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree • Preferred 3 years minimum of Clinical and/or supervisory experience in Women’s Services • Texas State RN license or compact license is accepted; Texas State RN license required 30 days after hire; • BSN • Specialty Certification is required/maintained; ACLS, BLS, and NRP
